Layton Giordani y Bart Skils se unen en el sencillo de tono oscuro ‘Deadly Valentine’

Dos pilares de Drumcode, Layton Giordani y Bart Skils, unen fuerzas en el emocionante pero oscuro thriller techno ‘Deadly Valentine’, ya disponible en el sello de Adam Beyer.

Skils son mundialmente conocidos por su techno que invade las listas de éxitos y no hace prisioneros. El último lanzamiento del productor holandés

en el sello de Beyer fue el EP ‘Sakura’ de 2024 que incluye colaboraciones con SUDO y Drunken Kong. Giordani, también líder de las listas, a la vanguardia de un nuevo y emocionante sonido que rompe con el género, combina influencias del house melódico, el progresivo y el indie dance con el techno. Su último lanzamiento en DC fue una reciente reelaboración del seminal ‘Let’s Go Dancing’ de Tiga y Audion, y el sencillo de otro mundo pero de gran éxito ‘Freaks At Night’ del pasado mes de junio.

El dúo tiene un historial de tocar B2B en eventos masivos como Drumcode, Loveland y Awakenings. Este es su primer sencillo colaborativo independiente (su ‘Midnight Magic’ estuvo en el LP Drumcode de Layton de 2020).

“Estaba escuchando Spotify y atravesando una madriguera de conejo de baile indie”, dice Layton. “Me topé con esta pista, me enganché al instante y supe que Bart era el tipo adecuado para colaborar en este disco”.

“Layton me envió la idea vocal y la convertí en un arreglo con un ritmo continuo”, dice Bart. “Después de eso, la pista se actualizó varias veces y se mezcló con un nuevo vocalista para su lanzamiento”.

“Deadly Valentine”: la percusión compleja y constante con un ritmo techno insistente le da un toque oscuro y cuestionador a la voz alta y dulce, rápida, con eco, a menudo en capas o armonizada consigo misma, cantando la letra de la ceremonia de boda aparentemente romántica en francés e inglés. Tócala como una propuesta, o una razón irónica para no hacer una, o simplemente baila al son de ella.

Two Drumcode mainstays, Layton Giordani & Bart Skils, join forces on rapturous but dark-edged techno thriller ‘Deadly Valentine’, out now on Adam Beyer’s imprint.

Skils is globally renowned for his chart-invading take-no-prisoners techno. The Dutch producer’s

last release on Beyer’s imprint was the 2024 ‘Sakura’ EP comprising collaborations with SUDO and Drunken Kong. Giordani, also a chart topper, at the forefront of an exciting new genre-bending sound, combines influences of melodic house, progressive, and indie dance with techno. His last DC outing was a recent rework of the seminal ‘Let’s Go Dancing’ from Tiga and Audion, and the otherworldly but peak time ‘Freaks At Night’ single last June.

The duo have a history of playing B2B at massive events like Drumcode, Loveland and Awakenings. This is their first collaborative standalone single (their ‘Midnight Magic’ was on Layton’s 2020 Drumcode LP).

“I was listening to Spotify and going through an indie dance rabbit hole’ Layton says. ‘I stumbled upon this track, was instantly hooked, and knew Bart was the right guy to collaborate with on this record.’

‘Layton sent me the vocal idea and I turned it into an arrangement with a rolling groove’ Bart says. ‘After that the track was updated several times and mixed with a new vocalist for release.’

‘Deadly Valentine’: complex, steady percussion with insistent techno beat gives a dark questioning edge to the high, sweet vocal, fast, echoing, often layered or harmonising with itself, singing the apparently romantic wedding ceremony lyrics in French & English. Play it as a proposal, or an ironic reason not to make one – or just dance to it.
