El innovador y contundente diseñador de sonido, productor y artista en vivo Enrico Sangiuliano sigue contando los días desde “NINETOZERO” en su sello homónimo, con autodestrucción incorporada tras el lanzamiento #0. Su nuevo EP “Discipline”, ya disponible, nos lleva al #2 con el lanzamiento de este triple tema del maestro italiano del techno (más una edición extra). Su próximo concierto nocturno en Crobar, Buenos Aires, el 25 de abril, agotó las entradas en menos de dos horas, tras su exitoso evento SOLO en el Village Underground de Londres en septiembre.

Conocido por su brillantez melódica y vibrante en el techno, Sangiuliano se las arregla para ser tanto un pionero artístico como un asiduo a las listas de éxitos. Además de su sorprendentemente cautivador «The Techno Code», el EP Discipline incluye temas de Secret Cinema & About Sofiya («You Know What I Was Thinking») y Zimmz («We Build And Reset»), quienes se unen a Enrico Sangiuliano junto a Charlotte de Witte, Antonio d’Africa, Mattia Saviolo, GMS, Alex Lentini y STOMP BOXX para un lanzamiento en NINETOZERO.

«The Techno Code» (Enrico Sangiuliano) es a la vez un manifiesto y un comentario sobre el tema, sobre el techno en sí, con una portentosa voz en off que anuncia «Estas son mis reglas: el Techno Code» antes de describir lo que te sucede en los oídos, los pies y el cerebro. Hay ecos de las películas estadounidenses de los años 50 sobre bombas atómicas, de «This is my church…» de Faithless y de «Sonic Attack» de Hawkwind. The Voice nos lleva a través de la “marcha hacia adelante” del bombo y los hi-hats, el sutilmente “cautivador tema principal” con sus sintetizadores melódicos, un chorro de ácido, antes de que “todos los elementos converjan en una oleada poderosa”, y lo hacen, y lo es. Hay una hermosa ironía en que el estribillo de “Rules” y “Discipline” esté acompañado por ravers extáticos e indisciplinados en las pistas de baile de todo el mundo.

“The Techno Code” se basa en el tema de la disciplina. Quería crear una pista de techno dinámica y despojada con una voz en off que te guíe a través de ella, casi como un conjunto de reglas”, dice Enrico. “La voz, con su tono ligeramente arrogante y autoritario, establece la estructura y el significado de la pista, pero con un toque de autoironía. Sabe que te está guiando a través de una pista de techno clásica, gruesa y gigantesca, y eso es lo que la hace divertida. Esta pista nació en la pista de baile. La primera versión en bruto debutó en el Festival Futur de Turín en julio de 2024. A partir de ahí, seguí pinchándola, perfeccionándola y probándola en casi todos los conciertos. Se convirtió en el tema que más escuchaba antes de su lanzamiento, moldeado por la energía y la retroalimentación en tiempo real.

«We Build And Reset» del enigmático talento de Róterdam, Zimmz: un ritmo complejo con un siseo estático creciente, capas melódicas y pulsantes de sintetizador en un tema principal animado y vibrante, adornado con punzadas difusas y swoops espaciales, mientras una voz masculina asertiva entona la letra. «We Build And Reset» es una reflexión sobre el tiempo en general, sobre cuántos de nosotros nos perdemos en el pasado o en el futuro y sobre la importancia de vivir el presente. Esta canción representa tanto la confianza en el futuro como la apreciación del pasado. Zimmz.

Enrico dice: «Zimmz ofrece un punto de reflexión genial sobre el tiempo en general, sobre cuántos de nosotros nos perdemos en el pasado o en el futuro y sobre lo importante que es vivir en el presente. Toda historia, todo ciclo de vida terminará en algún momento, lo queramos o no. Y solo entonces, surgirá un nuevo ciclo. Ninetozero nació en torno a esta idea, con un final preciso fijado en el tiempo».

«You Know What I Was Thinking» de la eminencia holandesa Secret Cinema y la artista japonesa. Sobre Sofiya: un paisaje sonoro intrigante como una fábrica alienígena que aún funciona en una selva tropical descuidada: percusión con pausas, frases que parecen bongos, hilos de sintetizador mecánicos pero orgánicos, vibrato ocasional de voces femeninas susurrantes… más ambiental pero aún bailable. «Sofiya tuvo la idea de hacer una canción que haga que la gente imagine ‘Purple’. Primero hicimos las capas ‘moradas’, luego los ritmos y otros sonidos vinieron inmediatamente después. Medimos la escala de tonos, y luego fue Re mayor y Si menor, que representaban el espectro de colores Azul y Rojo, lo que da como resultado… ¡morado! Luego hay una melodía que Jeroen compuso de una sola vez; la melodía en sí misma resultó verde. Balanceamos los sonidos para que contrastara con la paleta de colores general de la pista. Uncompromising, innovative sound designer/producer/live performer Enrico Sangiuliano keeps counting down from ‘NINETOZERO’ on his eponymous transient imprint, with its built-in autodestruct after release #0. New EP ‘Discipline‘, out now, brings us to ‘#2’ as the Italian techno maestro drops the three-tracker (plus a bonus edit). His upcoming all-night-long show at Crobar, Buenos Aires on April 25th sold out in less than 2 hours, following his hugely successful SOLO event at London’s Village Underground in September.

Known for his melodic/driving techno brilliance, Sangiuliano manages to be both an artistic pioneer and a frequent chart-stormer. As well as his startlingly compelling ‘The Techno Code’, Discipline EP includes tracks from Secret Cinema & About Sofiya (‘You Know What I Was Thinking’) and Zimmz (We Build And Reset’) who join Enrico Sangiuliano alongside Charlotte de Witte, Antonio d’Africa, Mattia Saviolo, GMS, Alex Lentini, STOMP BOXX for a release on NINETOZERO.

‘The Techno Code’ (Enrico Sangiuliano ) is both a manifesto and a commentary on the track, on techno itself, with a portentous voiceover announcing ‘These are my rules – the Techno Code’ before describing what’s happening to your ears, feet and brain. There’s an echo of 50s US atom bomb warning films, of Faithless’ ‘This is my church…’, of Hawkwind’s ‘Sonic Attack’. The Voice takes us through the ‘march forward’ of kick drum & hi-hats, the subtly ‘captivating main theme’ with its melodic synths, a squirt of acid, before ‘all elements converge in a powerful surge’, and they do, and it is. There’s a beautiful irony as the refrain of ‘Rules’ and ‘Discipline’ will be accompanied by undisciplined ecstatic ravers on dancefloors worldwide.

‘’The Techno Code’ is built around the theme of discipline. I wanted to create a driving, stripped-down techno track with a voiceover that guides you through it—almost like a set of rules’ Enrico says. ‘The voice, with its slightly arrogant and commanding tone, lays out the structure and meaning of the track, but with a touch of self-irony. It knows it’s leading you through a fat, giant, classic techno track—and that’s what makes it fun. This track was born on the dancefloor. The first raw version debuted at Futur Festival in Turin in July 2024. From there, I kept playing it, refining it, and testing it at almost every show. It became the track I played the most before its release, shaped by real-time energy and feedback.’

‘We Build And Reset’ from Rotterdam’s enigmatic talent Zimmz: a complex beat with building static hiss, melodic pulsating synth layers in an upbeat, bounding main theme adorned with fuzzy stabs and spacey swoops, as an assertive male spoken vocal intones the lyrics. ‘’We Build And Reset’ is a reflection on time in general, about how many of us get lost in the past or in the future and about how important it is to live in the present. This song represents both trust in the future and appreciation of the past.’  Zimmz.

Enrico says, ‘Zimmz offers a cool point of reflection about time in general, about how many of us get lost in the past or in the future and about how important it is to live in the present. Every story, every life cycle will finish at some point, wanting it or not. And only then, a new cycle will rise. Ninetozero was born around this idea, with a precise end set in time.’ 

‘You Know What I Was Thinking’ from Dutch luminary Secret Cinema & Japanese artist About Sofiya: intriguing soundscape like some alien factory still functioning in an overgrown rainforest – percussion with breaks in it, bongo-like phrases, machine-like yet organic synth strands, occasional vibrato female vocal whispering…  more ambient but still danceable. ‘Sofiya had the idea to make a track which will make people imagine ‘Purple’. We made the ‘purple’ layers first, then the beats and other sounds came right after. We measured the key scale, then it was D major and B minor which had the meaning in color spectrum Blue and Red, which makes…purple! Then there is a melody which Jeroen made in one go, the melody itself came out green, we balanced the sounds so it gives contrast to the overall color palette of the track. After balancing, the key of the track became E minor and G major.’ – Secret Cinema & About Sofiya
