Esta idea cobra forma en The Underdog LP, un proyecto de 20 temas que abraza la diversidad sin perder cohesión, guiado más por el instinto que por fórmulas. Moviéndose entre la energía de club y la profundidad emocional, el álbum recorre distintos estados de ánimo, reflejando tanto su versatilidad como su compromiso con la narrativa musical.

En esencia, The Underdog LP es una declaración de resistencia. Marcado por años de ser infravalorado o pasado por alto, el proyecto convierte esos desafíos en motor creativo, lanzando un mensaje claro a todos aquellos artistas que siguen adelante, independientemente del reconocimiento.

Has construido tu carrera sobre la consistencia y la autenticidad, en lugar de seguir tendencias. ¿Cómo definirías hoy el “sonido DJ Dove”?

Mi sonido puede moverse en diferentes rangos, pero algo que puedo decir es que hay una constante en mi trabajo: todos mantienen elementos soulful, y eso es muy importante para mí.

Viniendo de una familia cubana y creciendo entre culturas, ¿cómo influyó eso en tu ética de trabajo y en tu impulso por triunfar a nivel internacional?

Realmente intento integrar lo europeo, lo americano y lo latino en mi trabajo para mantenerlo innovador, fresco y consistente en todo lo que hago.

La escena underground ha cambiado mucho desde los años 90. ¿Qué crees que se ha mantenido y qué se ha perdido por el camino?

La generación actual, al menos donde yo vivo, está más interesada en grabar vídeos y hacer fotos que en dejarse llevar por un viaje musical, así que para mí bailar sigue siendo una prioridad.

Has colaborado con una amplia variedad de artistas de diferentes estilos. ¿Qué buscas a la hora de elegir colaboradores?

En los proyectos colaborativos, la química entre el otro artista y yo es fundamental. Si no hay conexión, el proyecto que estamos creando no va a alinearse como debería.

The Underdog LP cuenta con 20 temas y un elenco global de artistas. ¿Cómo afrontaste la creación de un álbum tan cohesivo y a la vez tan diverso?

No quería que los 20 temas sonaran iguales y arriesgarme a que la gente no conectara con el álbum. Así que di lo mejor de mí, dejé fluir la creatividad y permití que tanto el instinto como las ideas tomaran el protagonismo. Es un enfoque un poco poco convencional, pero hice todo desde el corazón, sin limitaciones ni barreras.

Temas como “Ritmo Fuerte” y “Touch My Soul” muestran energías muy distintas. ¿Cómo equilibras la funcionalidad para el club con la profundidad emocional?

Te diré que es un viaje muy emocional, porque tienes que estar en distintos estados mentales dependiendo de tu estado de ánimo, y yo puedo ser muy cambiante con la música. Me alimento de las emociones cuando creo, así que la forma en la que me expreso en estos temas tiene que estar muy afinada, casi con una mentalidad perfeccionista.

El título sugiere resiliencia y perseverancia. ¿Qué desafíos en tu carrera inspiraron la narrativa detrás de The Underdog LP?

A lo largo de mi carrera he tenido, y todavía hoy tengo, que enfrentarme a situaciones en las que se me subestima, no se valora mi trabajo o no se reconoce el tiempo y el esfuerzo que he dedicado a la música que amo. Pero en lugar de quejarme, utilizo eso como combustible. Ese es el mensaje que quiero transmitir a los artistas que se sienten igual, y por eso les dedico este álbum.

Collaboration, for him, goes beyond names or styles—it’s about chemistry, connection, and shared vision. This ethos is fully realized in The Underdog LP, a 20-track project that embraces diversity without losing cohesion, guided by instinct rather than formulas. Moving between club energy and emotional depth, the album captures a wide spectrum of moods, reflecting both his versatility and his commitment to storytelling through sound.

At its core, The Underdog LP is a statement of resilience. Shaped by years of being underestimated and overlooked, the project transforms those challenges into fuel—delivering a powerful message to artists who continue to push forward, regardless of recognition.

You’ve built your career on consistency and authenticity, rather than following trends. How would you define the «DJ Dove sound» today? 

My sound can go different ranges but one thing I could say is the constant in my work is they all maintain soulful ingredients to them and that’s important to me.

Coming from a Cuban family and growing up between cultures, how did that influence your work ethic and your drive to succeed internationally? 

I truly try to integrate the European, the American and Latin sides in my work in order to keep things innovative, fresh and consistent in all of my work.

The underground scene has changed a lot since the ’90s. What do you think has remained the same and what has been lost along the way?

This generation now where I live are more interested in taking videos and pictures than making being taken on a musical journey so for me dancing is a priority.

You’ve collaborated with a wide range of artists across different styles. What do you look for when choosing collaborators? 

In collaboration projects, the chemistry between myself and the other artist has to be a must. If I can’t vibe with you then the project we’re creating will not align the way it’s meant to be put forth.

The Underdog LP features 20 tracks and a global roster of artists. How did you approach creating such a cohesive yet diverse album? 

Well I didn’t want these 20 tracks to sound the same and risk people not feeling the album. So in turn, I put my best foot forward, get my creative juices flowing and just let instincts as well as ideas really take centerstage. Such an approach is a bit unorthodox but I did everything from the heart with no limitations nor boundaries.

Tracks like «Ritmo Fuerte» and «Touch My Soul» showcase very different energies. How do you balance club functionality with emotional depth? 

Let me tell you it’s a very emotional trip because you have to be in different mindsets depending on your moody because I can be very moody when it comes to music. I thrive on emotions when it comes to creating tracks so how I present myself on these such creations have to be so on point almost with a perfectionism mentality.

The title suggests resilience and perseverance. What challenges in your career inspired the narrative behind the LP The Underdog? 

In my long career, I’ve had and still today face challenges of being underestimated, not valued, not validated in the time and hard work that I’ve put in to the music I love. But instead of complaining, I use that as my fuel which is the message I’m trying to convey to artists who feel the same about themselves so I dedicate this album to them.
